BJ8 Emergency Brake Lever Loose

I finally got a few "honey-do's" done so will be putting the beast on jackstands tonight. One of the things I want to do is check out is why the emergency brake lever is "loose". The lever feels like it is becoming disconnected from its mount. The brakes still function fine. Any tips on how to go about troubleshooting this little problem will be very appreciated. I purchased new bolts/screws for it, but don't know how to access the mounting area. Ideas? Thanks again in advance. Steve

Steve,

The mounting bolts are accessed from inside the drive shaft tunnel (actually the screw heads are on the outside, nuts are on the inside). I recall it being a bear to get to without removing the drive shaft but from below the car it might be easier. If you end up needing to remove the differential for the rear end leak you will need to remove the drive shaft too ... two birds ... one stone and all that. The looseness is probably from wear in the pivot point area or loose mounting bolts. Also make sure you fill all the gaps in this area with insulating tape, etc. Hot air from this area blows directly into the passenger area.
