BJ8 Choke Problem

I put new choke cables on my 1967 BJ8. It is tough to pull
out the choke to start the car. I even tried to let oil drip down in the cable before installation. Even pulled out all of the way the car cranks awhile before it starts. Is this a typical problem with BJ8s? My brother in law's 1958
100-6 starts up right now with out even touching the gas pedal. His choke is very easy to pull. What springs are
used to resist pulling out the choke on a BJ8?

HI 67BJ8, There are two sets of springs to combat on the BJ8. 1] the throttle return springs and 2] the choke return springs. The springs are identical parts.However, if the choke return springs are not properly stretched the choke will be very hard to pull.Even when properly set the BJ8 choke is a bit harder to set.--Fwiw---Keoke

P.S. There is a potential for binding if the cable is not installed correctly.Correctly meaning no sharp bends. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

Where do I get the proper springs and what is the part number? Also, where do the choke springs hook to on the car?

HI 67BJ8, The choke return springs are the same part as the throttle return springs which are available from Moss Motors. The Choke return springs hook into the choke return arms at the carbs and then extend directly dowwnward and connect to holes in the chassis,also check the archives we have discussed this recently. However, if you do not have them installed yet and the choke is overly stiff I suggest you check the routing of the cable for tight bends.---Keoke
