BJ8 Choke Cable Installation

Greetings! Been quite a while since I visited this forum. Just too many other things getting in the way and more focus on restoring a '69 Dodge Charger (original owner) for 2-1/2 years.
I pulled the choke knob in my BJ8 to start the car and the cable (original, as far as I know and I've owned the car since 1984) broke at the splitter bracket on the firewall. I bought a new cable from Moss and received it, but there is a slight difference from the original: the threaded portion at the knob is shorter. I'm not sure I can get the nut on it tight, but my immediate problem/question is this:
Is there a simpler way to install the inner wire through the firewall than dropping the heater box? I've removed the console but it still doesn't provide much of a shot to the firewall hole.

Thanks!

Haven't tried this, but would it be possibly to fish a line in from the engine side of the scuttle using, say, a straightened--or appropriately bent--clothes hanger?

I attach a wire snake to the cable before pulling it out so I can pull the new one back. Most hardware stores will have a "coupling nut", it clears the dash you can get an open ended wrench on it

I did insert a stainless steel wire into the firewall hole, but how to attach it to the new cable and still be able to pull both the old and the new together through that very small hole is one problem. Another approach might be to glue a strong thread to the new cable and pull it through that way. A second problem is that the new cable from Moss has a 1/4" shorter threaded portion of the knob than the original (1/2"), and it is barely long enough to go through the dash. Moss says P/N 734-190 is applicable to BJ8 and that's the one I ordered and received. I hadn't thought of the coupling nut approach, so I'll give that a try.
Thanks!

To use the snake you'd need to remove the cable bracket mounted to the firewall that's held on by 2 philips head screws. A much larger hole once removed.

Ah, another good hint. In the 41 years I've owned the car, I never removed that bracket.
Thanks!
