I was reading an article by Jim Taylor that discusses the venting of damper chamber. Is the web vented in the chamber on the HD8 carb of the BJ8? He states that the cap ahould not be vented if the web is. I know the damper cap is vented but it is a replacement.

No holes ,Vents, in the Webb of HD8 Carbies TH. Vented plastic tops only.---Fwiw-Keoke

perhaps i can jump in here to ask a somewhat related question. my 64 bj8 has developed a habit of backfiring through the rear carb and in the process, driving the dashpot piston shaft through the plastic top. the enine runs very smooth, but about once every 100 miles or so, it pulls the backfiring stunt. suggestions will be gratefully received

Hi Steve,
It sounds like your rear carb mixture may be a little lean.

Hi Steve and thanks TH. I have exactly the same problem with a '66 BJ8. (See Dash Port link P8) Never seen a dashpot piston shaft drive a hole through the cap. Is tyhis why they changed from brass to plastic???? Cheers David

Yep they didn't want to bend the shafts anymore.---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

OK! 'Nuff already you win Keoke! Ordered a new set with pre-drilled brass caps and pre-bent shafts and a carb diaper so I can't hear the carbs [censored]. FI sounding awfully attractive. Cheers David
