BJ8 back rest removal

Evening everyone,

I tried to find some help in the search feature, and ended up buying a set of frying pans and an exercise bicycle. Just kidding. I'm sure this topic has been explained to death but I couldn't find anything specific, so here I am a humbled broken man looking for help on a problem that is likely obvious to Homer Simpson. How do you get the bloody backrest out of a BJ8? I've removed the fold down part and a couple of bolts from the wheel wells, that seem to be in the picture for no apparent reason other than to increase your blood pressure. What's next? Please don't tell me my wife has to crawl under the car again and undo more bolts.....

Cheers and thanks
Dave

Yes they secure the upright end pieces.

Well she just might: Look at the very back and on the bottom is a wooden piece covered with vinyl.
Installed in this piece are three slotted flat head screws that thread into the car body and can be rusted up tight.--Fwiw--Keoke-

Here is a picture of two of those screws. The third is by the other arch.

Thanks for the info Keoke.

I assume the "rusted up tight" screws are located under the car, where only a double jointed person with tiny fingers and special tools which are no longer available can reach them.

Good photo Greg..always helpful. You seem to have photo-documented every last inch of the pain and suffering on your own rebuild. Thanks for sharing.

The three screws have blind nuts welded to the body. If you are lucky you won't damage the nuts getting the screws out. Use plenty of penetrating fluid and give it a couple of days to work. Have a good day!

Thanks for the suggestion John and taking the time to reply. I dug out the Liquid Wrench, and will tackle the soft underbelly of the beast.

D.
