BJ8 Antenna Question

Velox

Well I searched through the forum posts of radio, speakers, antenna etc but did not see a description of how to access the antenna. On my BJ8 it is on the passenger front fender just forward of the front of the door hinge area. I had thought it would be easy to access it through what I call the "kick panel" area but there is no opening there to reach into the antenna space and it is not reachable through the engine compartment. Mine is loose or broken under the fender mount hole and rattles around in there. Does this really require removing the fender /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif I would think there is a easy approach but it isn't apparent to me so wonder if anyone here could point me in the correct direction? Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Velox, I am not sure if a BJ8 is configured the same as my Bn7 but my car the fenders are currently off. It appears that I could in fact reach the area that you are speaking of. Is the heater blower or it's piping obstructing your reach ? If so this is easy to remove. My car has no servo so I don't know if that could be a problem. One other thing
about fender removal, and I could be wrong, but I had to first remove my door to get my fender off. If you have take the door off I would some way mark around the hinge to make it less troublesome to reinstall .Goodluck Bob

velox, hold on a minute!unless you have a motor driven anteni you shouldnt have to remove any body panels to either remove or replace it! if you losen the nut at the bottom of the antena
"should have flat spots on the sides",the entire antena will become loose,if you move it around a bit youll notice two half moon pieces inside the opening of the fender that swivel around, lining them up correctly, should allow you to slip the antena up and remove it,the reverse will allow you to replace it,you can go on line or to an auto supply store like {nappa} to see how the swivels work.if you do take it out, first tie a string around the cable end thats plugged into the radio so when you pull the cable back through the outside of the fender you can pull the new cable back into the car and plug it into the radio,if you are still getting reception with the loose antena perhaps you can just tighten the twoo sided nut that sits on top of the fender. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Thanks guys for your help. I can not see the antenna through the engine compartment even with heater piping out of the way. I did not know it could be retrieved and replaced just through the fender hole, I will try that this weekend. I had thought of perhaps replacing it with a motorized unit, but now that I see the access problem I'm going to forget that, certainly do not want to remove any panels to get in there! Thanks again!
