BJ7 - Parts Needed & Rack & Pinion Inquiry

I am buying a 63 BJ7 in reasonable semi restored state. I am looking for the following:
- Rear seats and installation parts (currently a bench)
- 3 x Weber conversion
- Aluminum head
- Used hard top
- Motolita stye steering wheel
- Used 72 spoke wheels
- Rear disc conversion
- Aluminum flywheel

Has anyone ever converted a Healey 6 to rack & pinion? What was the donor? How did it go?

Thanks,

Scott Graham

You can get rack and pinion conversion stuff by checking out
The Modified Austin Healey Registry site. lots of guys converted. Also some guys have left over parts from before their conversions.worth checking out.never hurts to have
an extra source of info.

What is the advantage of Rack and Pinion? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

To restate an earlier post;
R & P steering was largely adopted to make it easier to get the steering parts all in the correct locations as dictated by the body/chassis design. Also cheaper to make & less complex than any other type.

A worm & peg steering box, in good condition, can have just as good a feel & performance as a R&P. R&P's are also subject to their own set of wear & mounting problems.

The factory sales people were not about to mention that convenience & cost are the driving forces behind the new steering design & so hyped the largely imagined advantages which everyone picks up as gosple.

For the folks who are into engine transplants & other major modifications, the R&P offers a much simpler solution than the old style boxes.
