BJ7 back end rebuild

Hi Guys

Well all the external panels are of the back end of my BJ7, I have taken a few measurements inside the boot before I start removing the box boots and the rear chassis extension arms etc. I have checked some dimensions against those shown in the good book and low and behold I have a 10mm discrepancy in the clear dimensions between the chassis extension arms. Now, do I stick with the clear dimensions that I have or do I alter it to that shown in the good book. My tendency is to repeat what is there already, and to do one side at a time so that I can reference the position against the one on the opposite side. Although the chassis extension arms are shot, they are still straight along the top surface and look to be the originals, the back rail and the two drop down U channels, to which the chassis extension arms are welded to, also look original and appear to be in reasonable condition, except that the U channels are shot where they meet the floor panel. Hence my feeling to stick with the existing dims.

Having removed the rear shroud, I intended to replace the drain channel with a new one that I had purchased some years ago, but having shown the new channel to the shroud, it is way out on the bends and needs to be 'sprung open' as it were but the construction is so strong, some major surgery is required. Have any of you BJ7 and BJ8 owners come across this and what was your method of overcoming it.

Hi Bob,

I too am interest to know about the drain channel as I have a similar situation. I had a body guy do some work for me years ago, then I put the car in storage for about 15 of years while other things in life took precedent. When I recently started back on the car it looks as if he mounted the drain channel on the outside of the lip of the rear shroud and botched it up in the process. Thank god we caught that before the car ever go wet or else I might have had a flood. I decided to buy a new one and try put it in correctly. I seem to be right where you are. The new channel isn't too close to fitting without some major rework. I even contacted the place where I bought it to ask if anyone else has had issues. I know a lot of this stuff needs work to make it fit but this piece seems to be WAY off. I've tried at first myself but I decided for some professional help. I had someone willing to fix it but is behind given the current situation of the world.
I'll keep you posted how I make out.

Pete
