BJ7/8 Grille in an Earlier Car

I have often wondered if a BJ7/8 surround and grill would fit, without modification, into a 100-6 or BN7 or BT7. Austin tried to minimize the changes to the models as they went along. Just for kicks, does anyone know?

Should fit, since first Mk 2 cars used the later grill assembly.

Hi Rob,

Although I can not state definitively, after reviewing the Service Parts List, I also think it would fit. As you have stated, I also keep in mind that the 6-cylinder Healeys use the same outer panels with few modifications (i.e. BJ7/8) even where the underlying hardware had changed. Although the earlier models have different grills and/or surrounds, I don't believe the panel attachment points have changed though the later grill and surround use different fixing hardware.

I too think it would work. According to the British Car Specialist catalogue, you would need to change the steel mounting brackets - they show one part number for BN4-3000MK1, and another part number for 3000MK1-BJ8.

I just finished rebuilding my front shroud and I know the headlight bucket pieces and the upper piece between the grill and bonnet opening are the same for BN4 on. The lower front shroud piece is BN4 up to BJ8 (B) 76137. And a different part number for BJ8 (B) 73138 on - which I think coincides with the extra marker lights?

Anyway, the above suggests the body opening is the same but the mounting brackets are different = should be doable.
