BJ 8 How to remove chrome trim strip from door tops

I am struggling to remove the chrome door tops on my BJ 8. I have read previous post and its seems to just be a case of gently levering up from the front near to the Windscreen Pillar. That works and the trim starts to comes free but it appears to be being held on by the stud for the tonneau cover.

Of course that just spins and will not unscrew. I have the internal door trim off and it seems to be impossible to get to the back of the stud (to hold it) as it is inside a fold of the door skin. Any suggestions?

Stud for the tonneau should only be on the chrome strip and will come off with it as it is raised upward. Back corner sometimes can get crimped onto door top, so lift evenly along the bottom edge. Sprung clips hold it in place.

Some people put rubber glue compound under the chrome strip to reduce rattling and to stop the chrome lifting when the window goes up and down.. Gently prise it off from the door lock end and not the windscreen pillar as the chrome strip has a lip on that end that curls around the door and helps retain it in place... Patience !!!!!

Just removed both sides without problem. Thanks, I think patience was the key word. They were slightly stuck to the rubber but once freed, and the knowledge that the stud was not holding them they came off with a bit of leverage underneath.

Working along with the levers on masking tape like taking a bike tyre off seemed to be best. Thanks again

I use dum-dum to help keep it in place and helps keep it quiet. Goes behind the chrome trim strip.

I reinstalled my chrome strips with a couple of 3M caulking strips. That stuff is still available from auto paint supply companies. Originally the chrome strips only had two pieces each about 12" long to do the job.
