Ok, this is for those who have NOT read every thread on this forum. If you HAD read everything you would know that unless you have the rear main seal add-on mod then it may be a problem if you, say, put the front of your Healey up on stands, as far as the usual leaks go...

Well I was changing to a gear reduction starter, put the car up in the front, went back the next day to continue the project, found a 6 inch puddle of oil underneath where there is the usual "marking territory" small drip /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif and got ready to tear everything apart to investigate this "new" problem. Doh /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif found the forum thread on rear main seals and where it was written the original seals spin the oil back into the pan when the engine is RUNNING but do nothing for gravity loss, say, when the car is standing up on it's rear /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif and not running...

All this of course has NOTHING to do with topping off the oil level to the very highest level on the stick /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif as if that extra ounce or two will make it run better...

So now that extra ounce is on my floor and (shock and awe) when I took the car off the front stands the leak quit.

Anyway, just another reason to keep reading all the posts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

On a fun note, I got my new aluminum valve cover in the mail today, it's really well done, I'll post a picture once I get it put on.

velox,ya mean the p.o. didnt give ya the drip tray with the car? why that dirty,no good %/::''{[%#@@!,-napa has a nice pressed aluminum one for about $9.00 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your problem is a common one, look HERE for a BCF discussion of it, and what to do....

Or make sure to tell your wife to check with you before she throws out old metal baking pans and then the drip pans are free ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

ed k,im sorry old man but it is legaly and morally incumbent upon one to purchase a large "drove over" type pan when the leak is equal to or greater then one u.s. ounce.look it up! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well TH, You could just put cardboard boxes flattened
under the car and throw them away when they get too dirty. On the otherhand, you could fix the car and that will solve the problem too.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Its really not that bad. I park the Healey across the street at a neighbor's garage in winter so I have top be kind to his enviroment. But the drops come from every where under the car. I'm waiting to fix it until I need to do other things.

keoke, you been hanging around whats his name? oh ya "cheapbastard" again? ive used the cardboard box trick befor, lazy as i can get i never cycled them soon enough and the fluid just ran through it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

keoke, looks like i cant call ya that name anymore "cheapbas--. at least not on the forum,he went and changed his handle to "chaepskate". and youll see,im gunna write a book "a million was to use a pizza box" itll have a section on "pizza box ooohrahgommy" too,if i could have found one at the time i would have rather bought the tray in rubber, cant stand the sound it makes when i run over the aluminum one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif
