Big Problem with Subaru Purchased after Lease

When my lease was up, I purchased my Subaru. I had to - the price was far too good. I sent my check by federal Express on November 6th. As of today - I don't have my title and can't register the car. I called this to Chase's attention in two phone calls. They claim it must have been lost in the mail and that they would order a duplicate title. I also paid the sales tax to Chase. Today, I spoke to the DVM - no duplicate title has been ordered. This could be a serious situation. If someone has my title, they could forge my name and sell my car to whomever. They would have to repo the car but if that's done - I'm S.O.L. Chase would blame the P.O., the P.O. would claim they never got it and I'd be out $13,627.00. I'm sure someone has that title. What should I do?

I would give it a few more days and then make one last call to DMV to see if the title still has not been ordered. If not, I would call Chase again and ask for your concern to be elevated. Don't just deal with whoever answers the phone. As to speak to a manager. That's the first thing I think I'd do. I would demand that they order a new title and that they follow up to ensure it has been ordered. I wouldn't be rude, but I'd be pretty darn stern.

PS: You forgot to give your post a title, so I gave it one.

I would hope that the title would have been sent registered with "Signature Required". Do you have any tracking numbers?
Insist when you speak with them to send it via trackable carrier. Good luck.

I wrote three letters - one to Subaru Motors Finance, one to the CT DMV and one to Subaru of America in Camden, NJ att. President to let them know what's going on and leaving a paper trail in case anyone tries to transfer the car. I also notified the local police department. I suspect a scam since the used car lot price on my car is about $24K and I paid $13,627 including 6.35% sales tax. My son - who just came down with Covid - disagrees. He thinks its just incompetence and labor problems. I told them I want that title within one week. even if they have to send a courier there to get it. They told me 6 to 8 weeks. I believe they also sent it regular mail - the cheap bas%%%$ds. If someone isn't walking around with it, God knows where it went. The DMV told me today that no one has ordered a duplicate title so far. Disgraceful. We are becoming a third world country very rapidly. We used to have the best telephone system and the best postal system in the world. Now? Bah, humbug.

No argument from me. It's as if the consumers have to do the jobs of the hired help in a lot of businesses. A couple of the "Big Bank" outfits are on my "excrement docket" as well.

"consumers have to do the jobs of the hired help "

No kidding. When I get a bill in the mail, I know what I owe and can pay it asap. But now most of my connections (utilities, credit card, charities, etc.) now say:

"Congratulations! You're going paperless! From now on, we'll send you an email, with a link to sign in to your new online account. You'll need to choose a username, then create a password of at least 8 characters, including capital and lowercase, at least one punctuation mark, and one non-standard character. Then you can click on Get My Statement, and pay online using VenMo, ApplePay, Google Pay, Zelle, or Flagship. And you're saving paper!"

good grief.
The company is saving postage and paper; I'm losing my mind.

This is one reason I wouldn't buy a car without a face to face meeting and I'd walk away with the title in hand.

Amen to that! But seems like these days, most classics are bought sight-unseen.

Yea I wouldn't buy without being there either unless maybe it was someone I'd known for some time.
I bought my last two cars over the phone from dealers out of state. In both cases it was because the dealers locally were marking up their cars and would not budge. Knock on wood I didn't have any problems getting my titles.

Ditto here too
Son just bought a car from N'Oleans while living in Clarksville

Precsently I'm trying to buy a car to have delivered in our new home area , but am getting lots of brickwalls. What I'm trying to do would send Walt over the edge

Shoot, you guys that deal with dealerships make me scratch my head. I bought one car twenty years ago sight unseen and that taught me my lesson.

Not only that ,...I'm sending it out of the country before I see it

I buy new cars so infrequently, 20 years between daily drivers bought new, that I want to sit in it, feel how the clutch works, the weight of the steering and so on. And with old ones, to see if they really are the condition they are claimed to be.

BTW guys, what do you think of new things like TURO that allow anyone to rent their car or cars to anyone?? I've seen the commercials but I don't see myself ever being on the renting to end, too many you just can't trust out there. Plus I'm sure insurance hikes would be "noticeable"..
