Guys,

I have a 1979 MG Midget I have no original keys. Just one repro for the trunk and ignition which look dum as they are oversized heads. How can I figure out which key models I need? Every MG key seller says to look at the key design. Seriously, I need help. I cannot figure out wtf I am trying to find!!! HELP! I'd like to order some new blanks.

You need an "RV" blank, buy three or four, because the key place will no doubt mess one or two up.

Thanks, Baz! Now, not to doubt you, but how did you know that? These places that sell them aslways give me the "I don't knwo which one" routine...

"RV" for a '79? or is it a "BL"...if you have a Moss ,idget catalog, go to page A12...look at the profiles of the various blanks & choose the one that matches yours.

Thats the problem Tony. What part is supposed to match? My key is not original and I cna;t seem to find a pattern. Is the "pattern" the actual "cuts"??

Look at your key sideways from the 'business end' - the part that's cut to match the tumblers in your ignition...it should match one of the profiles in the caatlog.

VB book has the blank codes to model years, I think the BL is the British Leyland style with the rubber end.
RV for 78-79
SM 49 - P119

GOD BLESS YOU GUYS AND THIS FORUM! I'D LOVE TO GIVE YOU ALL A BIG MIDGET KISS!

Think I'll pass on the BIG MIDGET KISS.

Like "Jumbo Shrimp."

Glad to finally meet a at least two other human beings who know the difference between an oxymoron and a contradiction of terms.

Ok, I dug this post up from over a year ago as I am looking for key blanks too.

It's funny but both my 78 Midget and my 70 MGBGT seem to have the RV style keys. Moss & VB seem to indicate that 1970 should be BL. I'm not really concerned much - maybe the GGT ignition was changed out?

Anyway, what's the current wisdom on getting spare keys?
