anyone remember how big end caps line up on 1500.

anyone know good "local" source for rod bolts. thought i had them lined up but parts store says can't get them. only $12 for whole set, too. boo-hoo.

Hello Morris,

"anyone remember how big end caps line up on 1500."

what do you mean line up? Caps should be marked to each rod and you will see from the marks left by the shell tabs which way round they go.

The notches are on the same side (and not 180 degrees apart).
Is that what you mean by "match up"?

My rods are not numbered, so if you mix up the caps, good luck!

Someone just posted a link to the ARP website here that had bolt sizes shown (maybe try a Search?).

What you really want is the cross reference that shows which Chevy rod-bolts will fit our cars. I'm not sure. Maybe you could just bring an old rod bolt into your local speed shop and see if they will match them up (they are all inches....my bolts are from a set intended for a Porsche).

FYI: My ARP rod bolts (for my 1500) are:
Total length is 2.100
Shaft length is 1.700 (without the head)
Threaded portion length is 0.625
Thread is 3/8-24 (fine)

These are special, high-yield bolts....obviously, do not use hardware-store bolts even if they are Grade 8 or better.

I remember doing stuff with a baby in one arm....long time ago....

What's "Grade 8" in Tiawanese??? I think they translated it as: "Silly Putty"

Provided the machine shop did not do something stupid (fat chance) the caps are on the right rod. I just could not remember how the notches lined up. Thanks Nial.

Ford Cosworth (2.3L) bolts are supposed to be a direct replacement. I found them in the O'Reilly catalog, but the parts monkey sez, "nope... can't get 'em."

You can get ARP rod bolts from Summit but they are a bit pricey. Depends on how much you are going to spend on the engine. I typically don't skimp on rod bolts. Not sure if I'm going all the way with ARP or not but as always, I'm leaning that way since I have never had any trouble with them.

Oh, I should have mentioned, you will need to cross reference Nial's numbers to find the right ARP number as Summit doesn't have much for Midgets...lol
