General TR Best Way to Store Brake parts

I've got several projects going that involve used brake master cylinders. I wondered if anyone has experience storing brake hydraulic parts that have been used and full of brake fluid? My experience is that if they are just put on the shelf, they become incredibly corroded...like boat anchor corroded. So, is it best to drain, plug, and bag...or disassemble, dry and reassemble?

I'd appreciate any tips!
 
If you're using DOT 3/4/5.1 then yes, remove all traces for long term storage. But DOT 5 actually makes a pretty good preservative, so I wouldn't worry about it. You'll probably still want to clean up before use, though.
 
Thanks guys. It looks like the best course is to drain and flush with silicone (I think thats the DOT 5?) fluid and then seal. We'll see how it works in a few years.

Yup, I rebuilt a set manyteen years ago, smeared everything with assembly lube, dropped them in plastic bags and still had a devil of a time getting the stuck pistons out again. I haven't tried dot5 for storage but if I had it to again, I'd store them with the rubber bits in a separate bag. Tom
