Best Top Down Tune

"Green Onions" Booker T and the MG's.

"Tequila" The Champs

I don't even remember why we were there at the time, but years ago I was in Los Angeles driving toward Wilshire Blvd. and Randy Newman's I Love L.A. came on the radio.

I wasn't in a convertible at the time, otherwise it would have been perfect, but just about at the point in the song where he shouts "Sixth Street!" we actually did cross 6th street. It was way cool.

In 2002 I left New York for SW Colorado, up to Montana and back East across the top of the country on Rte 2 in my just-restored '63 SAAB 96. Not a convertible but it does have the factory sunroof. As I turned off of my road , heading to I684, I hit the radio and "Born To Be Wild" came on. Turned it up with a big grin.
Other than over-heating the four-wheel drum brakes going down the pass into Durango, which was a bit of a white knuckle experience, the SAAB with it's 38hp two-stroke ran flawlessly the entire trip. I thought North Dakota was most fascinating.

Very cool car and a very cool drive. US 2 is on my bucket list for old US hiways that I want to drive and in Eric Carlson's favorite....I envy you!

histerical: your 1963 3 cylinder 2 stroke 841 cc 38 hp Saab with drum brakes; me and my 1969 3 cylinder 2 stroke 500 cc 60 hp Kawasaki 12.4 second quarter miler with drum brakes....
Still got my 'widow maker' and got it back on the road briefly last summer (first time in over 40 years); gotta learn how to ride it this summer (and kick-start it!). Back in the day, did a loop from Edmonton to the Pacific; ferry to vancouver island then back through the rockies to calgary and home. Sun/rain/snow/sleet. Younger then, too. Doug

Three more, from story tellers: Harry Chapin: "Taxi" ('and i fly so high, when I'm stoned'); if you're my age and Canadian: Stan Rogers: "Canol Road" and "Northwest Passage". If you're not familiar with these, kindly give them a listen. Doug

Big Stan Rogers fan here - Harry Chapin - well, my wife and I used to torture each other with "Cats in the Cradle."

Hey little Cobra, Jan and Dean,

My first bugeye in high school in '67 had a Motorola AM that use to struggle to pull in the Boston stations. But I loved it when they played the "long version" of the Doors "Light My Fire."

I really enjoyed Derek and the Dominos "Layla" in my Fiat 124 Spyder in college.

Today's bugeye with a 948 and 4.55 rear and "competition" exhaust ha no radio for reasons that should be obvious.

Meanwhile, my Nasty Boy has an ex-Mercedes Benz Becker Europa Stereo II that I snagged for $20. It has a deep, rich sound and I feel like it should either be playing opera or perhaps more fittingly with the V8 motor, "Flight" of the Valkyries."

Life is a highway by Tom Cochrane. Covered by Rascal Flatts for the movie Cars

excellent choice! BTW where you been? I fell like you haven't posted in an age. PM me and fill me in

Astoundingly, it happened again. I took Jessica to her speech therapist in Westminster (a 30 mile drive from our home) in Baby Blue and Kashmir came on again at almost the exact same part of the trip. I think it is moving up the list of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs.

And, a bit more sentimental, I heard "You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Adkins on the way up, too. Sunny, 70 degrees, the 1275 merrily buzzing along, Jessica rocking left and right and letting out periodic exclamations of excitement. That's a memory.

**** of a deal, 15 years ago you could get old radios on E-bay cheap, nowadays, they are asking hundreds of dollars for the nice ones, and even some of the not so nice. Would love to have something like that, I have an NOS Pioneer AM/FM cassette in the TR250, looks better than a modern electronically tuned radio, but not quite period correct.

Funny story, that. I saw it at a swap meet for $20. Having been taught to always make a lower offer, I told the seller I'd give him $5. He said, "For five bucks I'd take it over my head and smash it on the ground." I gave him the twenty and slunk away with my prize. Looks pretty period in the Healey:
