Re: Best place to pick up a new water pump for '71

BP is great, I usally go with them , but this time the RF seems to be a little less expensive (both very good vendors)

How about an Al. pump w/ an Al Pulley?

I've heard the aluminum pumps with their improved vanes are quite good, and also quite expensive. I looking into them myself but settled on the standard iron pump. I did, however, buy an aluminum water pump housing from a vendor in the UK. Really very well made and about 6 lbs lighter in weight over the cast iron housing. My iron housing was corroded to the point of being wallowed out inside. When I replace the iron pump, it will be with an aluminum for improved water movement.

They say you should run the pump dry for a bit to "break it in". Not really sure what that means. Perhaps someone on the BCF can address that.

Just to double check, my 1971 should take the 3/8th belt, right?

Thanks guys!

If everything is still stock,I think that is right. If a ney pump has been fitted in it's history, all bets are off.
