Best landing ever, or Honey,I need clean underwear

Talk about keeping your head, amazing. I'm guessing they don't train for that in flight school.

Holy crapoly! That guy deserves a medal for something! Gotta send that link to my son (he's a KC135 pilot)

 Well now that's someone I'd let be my flight instructor. I wonder if he 'got back on the horse again'????

I'm not sure if that one is a fake - maybe so, but this one is NOT fake:

I dunno.. I think the landing dosen't look right. It happens very quick, and clean and looks fake even for a landing with a perfect aircraft. And am I the only one who thinks that the plane should have tipped over onto the remaining wing with all that weight removed from the other side ,once it was on the ground?
I'm unconvinced. I thing the pilot interview was staged as well. Just my 2 cents.
No mention of what happened to the other wing, explain what went wrong.. they diden't show the damaged plane..(why not interview the pilot by the amazing plane?)
Not enough solid data for me.

I'm not screaming fake or real, it just feels fake looking at it. The wing break off is a little too clean. Usually when a wing separates from an aircraft, they usually don't break clean off at a rib like that. The rear wing spar is one of the strongest parts of the aircraft, since it's the backbone of the wing.

Ummm, interesting interview from the pilot of the "fake" video.
Do you believe everything you see on the internet? It's a viral ad campaign.

I might believe it if it were reported on a news site. Any news site. Threads like this are exactly what they're hoping for.

Nope, I don't automatically believe everything - in fact I searched Snopes about this but didn't not find anything on it (maybe I didn't do the search right). When I saw the interview was not on a news site I'll admit I had reservations. I also noted I could not Google anything about this from any news sources. Well, you have to hand it to them, they pulled of the desired effect! It is still a pretty good fake though! It reminds me of the video a few years ago that had a jet airliner landing on a freeway!

No, you're not. I thought of that immediately. Every time I have removed a wing, I have had to put a support under the remaining wing to keep the 'plane from tipping.

Good eye, Ben!

Re: Best landing ever, or Honey,I need clean under

Two points.
1. Planes don't have lift when flying sideways. Granted the engine provides most of the lift in this case, I think it would nose over since there is no lift across the wings.

2. That was the SHORTEST landing I have ever seen. It bounces once or twice then stops. I'm not a pilot but that seemed mighty short.

I sent it to a friend of mine and he said it looked like a model aircraft landing, especially the bounce and short landing. I don't know if it's real, but it is suspect.

Planes do indeed have lift when "flying sideways" (knife-edge flight). Otherwise they wouldn't be flying! This is done all the time in aerobatics. The lift comes from the fuselage at a high angle of attack, plus from the downward thrust vector of the propeller at this high angle.

However, the remaining wing still has lift. The force of lift would be asymetrical with one wing gone, causing the aircraft to roll wildly. I really doubt that the remaining aileron has enough effect to stop this roll right when the aircraft is in the knife-edge attitude, as the video shows.

And I agee with you about the short landing!

There really was not much forward motion. stays in a "hover about like a RC Looked just about how a RC plane flies no?
