Best Header for the money

As the title says, i'll be locating an LCB header as my wife wants to get me one for Christmas. Obviously it should fit my motor plans which are:

1380cc , 9.5:1 compression
Vizard modded HS2 carbs
Kent 276 cam

Spridgetmania has the LCB header in 1 7/8, and 2 inch collector sizes. So how do you know which one would be best?

Thanks guys

I love my Maniflow (brand) LCB header.
It's approaching 10 years old and it still looks fine.
Mine is a 1-7/8 and I am running a DCOE weber.
With the SUs I would stick with the 1-7/8.

I have found that the tube sizes and lengths are more critical than the collector size.

You might consult the Vizard book in the exhaust section and read the sizing chart. 20 years on and still good as a starting point in selection.

There are packaging constraints in production made headers...some more than others. For a street car that last 4 hp might not be critical but drivability would be. Small might be good in your case.

BTW......SpridgetMania.....MiniMania??? same?
You might check on other sources such as Winners Circle or APT....the price for like items might be a lot friendlyer.

For my '62 Sprite project with the engine being built by Hap I went with the long center branch header from The Winner's Circle and had it ceramic coated by Jet Hot. I like the looks and from what I've been told, performance should be great.

I was wondering what you'd be using, Ray. I still have to figure out what I'll be using for an exhaust on the Tunebug.

My Spridget will feature performance above comfort, so I am not too concerned with noise. I do rather enjoy a louder exhaust note. Right now I'm leaning toward a 2" exhaust pipe to a common (J. C. Whitney) 18" Cherry Bomb (2" inlet, 2" outlet). Cheap (read disposable) and a great sound.

I have a similar set-up, but with a Harley "bullet" muffler (2"). If you have friends with Harleys, they love to take them off and "upgrade" them for the "fishtail" mufflers. I snap them up and use them! They are flow-through and they work GREAT! I have spares /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ray, here are the pix.

They usually have to make them, but Kirk Racing Products makes the same header as what Ray has pictured, I think they may actually be the ones making them for WC. I have two with good success. Plan ahead though.

I've got this thread marked for when I get to the exhaust stage -- probably in the spring time.
