My wife just got a text from one of her Red Hats ladies that a very good friend of ours, Gary Stone, is in the hospital with pneumonia. Gary is a retired AF MSgt and retired from NCR. He volunteers as a docent at the National Atomic Museum in Albuquerque. We don't know how serious it is (but is pneumonia when your 75 ever not serious?). Mary is trying to get more info.
We have been good friends with them for years. I first met Gary around 1979 when I was attending UNM for my BSEE. He and I were in the same physics class. One day the doors to the Physics builder were locked, so everyone had to sit around and wait for the Prof to come and let us in. While we were sitting around in the grass waiting, Gary and I struck up a conversation and learned we were both AF (He was retired by then and I was in the AECP program). We ended up becoming study buddies and would spend endless hours, often into the wee hours, on the phone working out physics homework problems.
Before long our families were doing things together and our son was playing with their son of the same age. We have remained life-long friends ever since. A couple years ago, another good friend and co-worker, Rory, went into the hospital with pneumonia and never came out. I am praying that Gary overcomes this and soon!
