Best Distributor Curve for a Twink?

Hello all:

The Red Ropa is getting close to being back on the road after its winter hiatus (Yipee!). One job still to finish though is rebuilding the distributor.

I plan to send it out to be rebuilt and also re-curved. So I was hoping for some advise from the collective on the best timing advance curve to use. I have twin ZS, on a pretty much stock TCS engine (stock cams, compression etc). Now Page 169 of the Wilkins book has a number of curves, including the "stock" Big Valve curve - but from his narrative in the book, it sounds like this curve was a compromise to pass US emissions regs (max. advance is only 19 deg).

Can anyone suggest a different curve? The earlier 40953/Stromberg
(Domestic) curve from the Wilkins book perhaps (33 deg max)?

TIA for the advise.

Rob.

Thanks - yes I wondered about these, but would rather stay with the "stock" Lucas distributor.

Actually I spoke with Jeff of Advanced Distributors, and he has a curve that one of his customers has developed for Twink engines, and he has used with much sucess, so I am going with that.

I was just considering these because after high compression forged pistons, high lift/duration cam, polished head, big valves, header etc. I'm not sure the 'stock' curve is optimal anymore. But if you have one you know works, keeping the original distributor would be my choice also

Spoke with Jeff again earlier today. He's finished up on the dizzy. The mechanical advance was seized up solid - and THATS not good! He cleaned it all up, replaced the bushes, recalibrated and recurved it all and its on the way back. Thanks Jeff. I suspect I'll see a bit of an improvement what!

A little suprised the car ran as well as it did actually. Now just need to get the carbs back from Mr. Curto and for the snow to stop, and I'll be back on the road!

If you thought it ran well with a siezed dizzy advance, you're in for a pleasant surprise! Woo-HOO!!

The Red 'Ropa roared back to life this weekend. Bloomin' heck! With the rebuilt dizzy and carbs (remember the mechanical advance was seized, and the carbs were a bit gummed up too) - what a difference! The ol' Butt Dynometer really noticed the change. I even achieved a little rear wheel spin on take-off (unintentional of course). I knew the performance was a bit anemic before, but wow - I now see why folks get excited about these cars. Vroom vroom.

"Told ya so!..."
