Just finished installing my new spin-on oil filter adaptor. Well worth the price of admision. The Moss kit was reasonably complete, though it calls for you reusing the 2 copper washers on the banjo bolt holding the new oil pipe/hose--new ones might have been nice to include. Otherwise, a quick install and promises to be so much easier to use. Kurtis, make the move!

Rand the car for a little while, and there doesn't seem to be oil leak issues now with the filter setup. One problem solved, more to come!

Guys I just installed the Vicy Brit spin on adaptor (only $48) no sweat took 10 minutes, and no leaks uses a Fram 933 filter I believe. I can verify tonight and let you know tomorrow. No extra washers or hoses or anything. Remove the old can, replace the gasket and screw the adapter in place. Add Filter and 1/2 quart of oil and drive!!
 
No problems getting it to fit. I removed the generator, and the entire old housing (including the standoff). Screwed the new hose into the adaptor, and the adaptor to the block. Start to finish maybe an hour of work, and I work really slow. More time spent driving into town to buy the right sized allen key. I highly recommend it. No leaks.

Woodie--does the 70 Midget have an oil cooler? The VB catalog mentions that their adaptor requires one. The 948 in a Bugeye does not have a cooler.
 
My 70 midget has NO oil filter. The local British automotive garage, said no need. The folks at vicy brit , read the instructions to me and the oil cooler is optional. The adpater can be used without. So I have no oil cooler. He with 20W50 changed in April and Aug the oil never gets old to loose viscosity. And I don't drivefor 6 hrs at a time or in races...

Sounds like VB should change their catalog--I might have gone with the cheaper option had I know it would work. Does the VB adaptor reuse the original oil pipe? The Moss one I used replaces it with a flexible hose.
 
OOPS, yes I have an oil filter, Fram 933. The vicy brit adapter is simply a circular "spacer" that is held in place against the top plate with a stud. One side of the stud screws through the adapter into the top plate while the other side has the threaded stud for the oil filter to screw onto. It is machined aluminum. If you look closely at the pic in the vicy bit catlogue you can see the two parts. The original oil pipe is not touched. If you want to run an oil cooler then you gatta remove the original oil pipe and do the mods as if the spin on is not there. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the clarification. Strange that they list that it requires an oil cooler. Hmm... oh well, I've got a working solution now so no need to switch. The VB adaptor seems to be the simpler of the 2, however.
 
If your oil cooler is hooked up through the oil pipe or a replacement oil pipe then yes. The VB part does not affect the pipe. Looking at the Moss catogue on pg A25 there is an adapter that looks just like the VB part but at $98.00 part number 235-875 Still looking at the Moss catalogue on pg6 they show an adpater and pipe , also for $98 dollars part number 235-835. I suggest that Moss has two types of adapters. Somebody should call them.

Woodie - do a search for Fram oil filters on google. There's some scary stuff there!

I generally swear by Napa Gold filters nowadays since they're made by Wix (which has been well rated on filtering ability) and they have good anti-drainback valves to keep that oil up in the engine during starts....
 
think I will change from fram. Thanks for the links. MAybe Bosch They are easy to get here in Ottawa. I will stay away from Canadian Tire, Purolator,Fram

I know a guy here locally that had a cheap Fram filter brake apart and clog up his 318. Cost him a fair penny for a new long block! (it overheated and seized)
 
Another good reason to stay with the Woolsey setup! Cooper's or Crossland inserts. I've never had a problem with 'em and have logged literally hundreds of thousands of miles in LBC's. Premature engine wear hasn't ever been an issue either.

EDIT: Now the common Unipart filters. Still seem to be working fine.
 
Yeah...but it was kind of a mess trying to change the oil. Spin-on filters are a lot easier. I was afraid to lose some part of the canister's guts as it came off the car.
