Belt Tension? Whatdayall set it at?

DPO left a bolt loose on alternator bracket on the spit. I plan on going down there this morning and tightening it up. I suspect though that the reason is the nuts cross threaded. Anyway, my question is about the belt tension. Air pump has long since been bypassed. Belt has about an inch maybe a bit more of play in it. Seems loose for me, but I dont know what these cars run at typically and I dont want to eat those week arse lucas bushings out of the alt. I used to do half inch press on longest run in the shop (give or take depending on car). What about this one? Same?

Shop manual for the TR6 specifies 3/4-1" at mid-point of longest run.
