Before I tear the carbs apart again...

AH fans of all shapes and sizes...

A query. I started the '58 100-6 yesterday (it has been sitting waiting for my attention) and the rear carb started squirting fuel from the top of the bowl, not a stream but a squirt...I rebuilt the carbs a little while ago and they have worked fine up to this point...

Any suggestions as to the cause???

ALSO... who had the bright idea to route the fuel overflow on the carbs to dump out above the exhaust pipes??? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

sounds like a float either stuck down or not sealing when up.
Before tearing into it. Give it a little tap with accompanied by certain choice words. Standard, low pressure fuel pump?

If your float has a crack and has gas in it, it won't float properly, which means it won't shut off the flow of fuel at the float bowl jet.

Check your brass float and make sure that it only has air in it. If it has any gas in it you have to get a new float.
 
The classic test for brass floats is to immerese them in hot water and look for bubbles. The air inside expands, produces overpressure and will reveal minute cracks that you cannot see otherways.

Be sure to add rubber fuel lines to the overflow tubes so that the overflows go below the headers. On the manifolds use copper tubing. In any case these get routed below the headers/manifolds.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did attach rubber hoses to the brass overflow tubes and routed them near the frame to outflow below the header pipes.

Could make a nasty day if fuel overflow hit hot exhaust pipe... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

I was just 'waxing philosophic' about the design... being an Obsesive Compulsive Engineer for many years myself, I sometimes find myself questioning a design and its implications ... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Also, thanks guys for the float suggestions. I shall do the tests this weekend....
