I decided to have my rims powder coated since I was getting new tires. It was definately the right time and price. Only problem is the new tires seem to magnify the suspension problems; its original and needs to be replaced. One step at a time.

Sorry about the large pictures, wasn't sure how to reduce them.

Nice job, Soup. They look much better.

Dale will love them!

Thanks Paul, and I beleive silver is one of Dales colors.

Also, I've been meaning to ask you, how do you like your new TRF springs? I've purchased nearly everything I need to do the suspension from TRF minus springs and rear shocks (I went poly). I've been on the fence about lowering the car but think I will stick with factory height.

I went with the stock springs and stock rubber bushings and I'm very happy with the ride and handling. The original height is fine with me.

Nice job on the wheel!

How did you get the finish smooth again after looking chunks of finish? I have the same thing going on with my air cleaner cover, and it doesnt matter how much I scrape or grind over, you can always see where the top layer of fishing has peeled off.

Thanks!
Aldwyn

Aldwyn, the rims were sand blasted first. The guy that did it is known for his blasting and has been doing it for 20 years. He just started with the powder coating a couple years ago. He blasted both sides and powder coated both sides. I'm happy with the results.

That's exactly what it takes to do it right.

I'll bet it's gonna kill you to put the trim rings on, and scratch that pretty paint!

I'm holding off on any trim rings until I do the suspension, which has to happen soon. I don't want to mess up the new rubber. All four of the old tire were worn differently when I took them off and now when I drive, which has only been for short runs, the suspension actually seems worse than before. Maybe because the old tire were worn into position.

I would have to say that he didn't get all the sand out. You can see in the B/A photos where the paint is a little built up in the seam/crack that runs around the interior of the rim. I just grabbed any rim not looking for best or worst for the photo but I would say overall he did a high 8 out of 10 job which for me is acceptable.

Very nice job. My spare tire rim needs repainting. I will have to remember about having it sand blasted first before I paint it.
