Been away for awhile.......

Hey guys, I just dropped by this evening to do some catch up. Been away for awhile. Hubby and I have decided to become Venture Crew leaders (Like Boy Scouts but co-ed) and that puts us camping with a bunch of teenagers at least one weekend a month.
We also volunteered to restore their equipment trailer that they have had parked in a field for about 10 years. We figured since there's no car in the garage right now, we might as well be working on something.
It's been a little more project than we had anticipated, but it's been fun.

Y'all were doin' somthing like that before, right?

Well, I took a bunch of my students camping for the last two school years and really found I liked it. Both of my boys were in the Venture Crew and they needed some new leaders, so seeing that David and I were without a car project at this time, we agreed to help with the crew. Once they found out we had a garage...well you see what that brought home.
Working on the trailer is kinda cool. I get to use my car tools on the trailer and frame and woodworking tools on the top....all at the same time.

I have great plans for this thing....hope to create an equipment storage/chuck wagon kinda of thing, with a kitchen on one side and gear storage on the other. I'll keep y'all posted on the progress.

You'll be buildin' something allot more important and valuble than a trailer, THAT I can assure you!

Once you're in it a while, I'll bet ya you wouldn't change a thing for a million dollars.

I spent several years working with the local cub and boy scouts while my son was involved. Good for you.

Make them do the work as much as possible. They should set up the leader's tents also. You might not want them to cook your meals.

They do ALL the work! We don't sleep in tents, just under a HUGE tarp that the girls sleep on one side and the boys sleep on the other out in the open in sleeping bags (sort of cuts on down on the "privacy" of a tent if you know what I mean ;))

They cook all the meals! Next month we have a camp out where they will be volunteering to help with a Dutch Oven Cooking competition and learning how to cook in a Dutch oven. (mmmm, I'm looking forward to that one!)

I've had a dutchoven for years and haven't used it yet, too scared to burn my expensive meat. I guess I should just try a chicken first.

I don't have one yet, but I've had pizza, cake, biscuits and stew all cooked in one. Yummy. I'm hoping Santa will bring me one this year for Christmas.

BTW, there are cookbooks out there that tell you how to use them. They even include how many coals to put under and on top top to create the perfect temperature for whatever you are cooking.
