I ran across this video about flying the "Beech 18" (Same model that flew through the billboard in Mad Mad World). Then I remembered there had been a crash of a Beech 18 very near to our backyard when I was a boy in Bridgeport West Virginia.


The Beech 18 crash in Bridgeport was about 1/2 mile from our house. I remember walking to the site as a kid and seeing pieces of the place still scattered around the area.

Bridgeport is near my stomping grounds.
The field where it crashed is probably a strip mall or houses by now.

The airport was originally BenedumAirport, now Clarksburg Benedum Airport. Named after Michael Benedum, a wealthy oil and gas executive who was born in Bridgeport. My son, when he was flying CJRs for Skywest, had flown into there several times.
 
Sorry, I meant the crash site, not the airport. Have flown into there when in a rush to get back, since Elkins is shut to commercial flights.

I looked at my boyhood home on Google Earth and from what I can recall about the location relative to my house, it doesn't look like it's been developed.
