Bearing clearances and oil pressure

Agree very strongly, my build shop said clearance was .0015 and I now have all the oil pressure in the world at both top and bottom, hot and cold. Could not be more pleased.

Hay Morris, a rebuild is not a big deal as long as you are only doing bearings, no need to even pull the pistons. Expense is less than two hundred parts and machine work.

Wish I had known all this years ago.
 
Hello Morris,

the hot idle pressure sounds as though it is higher than the oil pressure warning switch opens so I wouldn't worry. If your hot oil pressure is constant then just drive it.
I drove an old Jaguar MK 2 for several years which had about 25 psi hot even at 4 to 5,000 rpm. I used to thrash that car and it never got any worse. I have still to strip the engine when I get that far on the rebuild.

You can get .0005" by resizing the rods depending on what side of the spec your rod housing bores are on. I don't like to vary outside of factory spec here due to this is what holds the bearing, too big the bearing is not secured properly, too small and you're going to be tight at the parting lines.
