BE Turn Signal Quesiton

Do the Beehive Lamps on a BE take 1156 Bulbs - turn signal only, or 1157 Bulbs - Parking Lamp Plus Turn Signal. The amber ones I got sold for Bugsy many years ago, that were supposed to be Front Turn Signals, are actually Amber rear lamps that take a 1156 bulb. I think I can reorder just the socket and update these correct. And yes I already ran a wire for the parking lamps.

1157's here in this one.

You do need the 1157, as they do the double function of parking lamps and turn signals at the front. At the rear they are just turn-signal lamps!

But I've seen people put 1157 in the back and run extra brake lights. It seems to defeat the purpose because then people are clueless that you are braking for a turn.

 To each his own, I guess!!! Parking lights and brake lights in the same unit make sense, but turn-signal and brake combos don't since they could both be flickering/flashing at the same time  !!!

K Thanks guys. Looks like I can just order the socket itself and not have to replace lens assembly as well. On a Square Body, front signals light up all of the time and flash brighter when signal is turned on. I'll upgrade the lamp socket. Another future project. Fortunately I already ran all of the wiring. Planning, planning, planning, just wonder when all of the plans will be completed. It never ends, I guess if it was always perfect, I'd need another car to start.

Hey Mike you were right about the Harley Muffler. Took car on a 20 mile shakedown cruise at high speed running some errands, pulled intothe driveway and as soon as I turned the corner things came apart. Nothing fell off but pipes separated and Bugsy got really, really loud. Put it all back together, double tight and tack welded the adapter pipes together. It's good to go now, and quiet again..

Jim, there were several versions of the beehive light, some were single element units and some were dual element. The difference is just in the housing and lamp contacts. The single element bulb used bayonet pins that were equal distant from the base the dual element bulbs had the pins offset so the correct contacts would be engaged. You'll need to get the correct housing for the dual element bulb (1157). These should be on the front of the MGA 1500s as one application if I remember correctly.

Question on this: it's been over a year since my BE was running, now doing the rewire and question on the bulbs.

From what you're saying is it YES to

- 1157 in Beehives up front (running and turn signal lights)
- 1156 in beehives in rear (turn signal only)
- 1157 in brakelights (red) in rear - running and brake lights

Thanks...

Bruce that sounds right. I found I think that I can buy just the socket from VB so I can get 1157 Bulbs to fit in my beehive lenses. MOSS only sells the complete assembly it appears.
