BE hood strut finish

Have been considering this - and on both sides. Anyone else done this?
 
Is awfully heavy for that to work.
 
I sand blasted them and powdercoated them silver. The powder seems to hold up to the sliding pretty well since the aren't really that tight clearance-wise.
