BE Generator: Repairable?

Gentlemen:

About two months ago the generator on my BE failed. I took it to a local alternator repair shop. They've told me that they've been trying to get it repaired, but so far have been unsuccessful. They now want to try to cut the tach cable adaptor off the end and adapt it to another.

Has anyone had any success it getting one of these repaired?

Mine packed it in shortly after I bought the car. A local shop was able to rebuild it.
 
You can not cut the tach cable drive off the generator, it is driven by a tail on the armature. You would need a whole armature, the correct one.
I think I would find a shop that knows what they are doing.
 
Gentlemen:

Two months into this hostage drama, my generator remains a captive.

I went to the shop twice this week, on Monday and Friday. I've been getting nothing but excuses. The shop said they sent the armature to another repair shop, but that shop has been unable to find a commentator. (That's what failed: some bars fell off.)

I called Star Auto electric several times, but never even got an answering machine.

Any more suggestions?

That would be a commutator! Keep an eye out on ebay, there are occasional listings for used generators that may be salvageable for parts!
 
Just get a used generator. They show up on eBay frequently. If the one you buy isn't completely usable, you can mix parts from the two to get a single working one. Of course, you'll need another tach-drive generator with a good armature. I don't think you'll be able to replace the commutator yourself.
