BCF Web Site Hosting

Basil has recently posted a couple of new ads for the BCF web site hosting service. I've been using this service now for a little over 4 months and figured I'd share my experience & opinion.

I started my site about 7 years ago and originally had it hosted by a free service that placed advertising on the bottoms of pages. I quickly outgrew the disk space they offered so I moved the site to the hosting service we use for the business. This is a service that caters to business – performance is exceptional, availability is almost 100%, and support is quick and competent. It is not cheap but I was happy with it because it made things so much easier for me.

I finally started running out of disk space again and adding more would have meant even more $$$ so I figured I'd try Basil's service for a while since it's less expensive.

The results: BCF is faster by about a factor of 2, and is at least as reliable. I have three times the disk space and I'm sure the support – if I ever need it – will be as good or better. I'm paying 60% less for this. In short – it's a bargain.

This is unsolicited – I just figured I'd throw it out there in case a few folks have sites elsewhere & would consider moving them here, or in case anyone wants to start their own. Too bad he won't host commercial sites.

I'd like to echo John's comments. I also have my site hosted on this very server.
I didn't have a website when Basil started hosting, but as the service was available, and it is a way of supporting the forum, I went ahead and built my own site for hosting here.
It is a bargain, and I've only ever had one experience with customer service (Basil) and he called me!
Every LBC deserves a website.....

yeah but I wish he didn't limit it to LBC sites, I'd consider doing a family site

Well, chuck, do one on your LE & the family that loves it!

nah Tony, I'm done with MG sites, although I'd put a pic or two on it

First, thanks John and Barry for the plug. I've had a couple of people PM me about how firm I am on the "LBC" aspect of sites I host and so I'm re-thinking that. My reason for doing that in the first place was to keep the focus of things on Little British Cars. Also, I'm not trying to be a major hosting company, just offset the cost of operations some. That said, in thinkng about it, as long as someone is a member here and has a non-commercial (and clean and in good taste family-oriented site), I would be happy to host it. The only exceptions at this point would be that I would not want to host political sites (even if it was politics I agreed with) or commercial (for liability reasons). That said, if folks are members and have clean, family-oriented sites that are not necessarily LBC-specific, PM me if you might be interested in hosting here. I would hope though that you would at least have a section on your site about your LBC, even if its just some pictures. If you are not familiar with setting up and running a web site, I can talk you through most of what you need to know to get started - I've even been known to call folks to help over the phone.

I have my site hosted here and the above quote is 100% true,
without Basil's help it would have never happened.

Dang it, I guess I can't use my naked presidential candidates web site idea.
