I finally figured out why my car has been running so darn rich. First -- the wrong plugs were in there. I got new plugs and it makes a huge difference.
Secondly -- the float bowl forks were all bent wrong. I set them to the manual specs (a 7/16th test bar) but now I'm way too lean.
One of my SUs uses a ballbearing meter/stop. I suppose that should mean I set it differently.
I keep bringing them closer to the top to allow more fuel into the bowl, but still I'm lean. I'm also going richer on the idle mixture screws.
One of these days I'll get it!
