I think I'm due for a new battery for my BJ8 and was interested in everyone's opinion of what to get. I'm interested in what the recommended Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) would be and any other little bits of experience you want to share.

If you are not trying to have it look original, consider the Optima battery. It never needs water, and has a much higher cold cranking power. It is more expensive, but some Costco stores carry them for a little over $100. The main reason I like them is that they do not give off the normal explosive gases like regular batteries. With the battery located so close to the gas tank (many which have developed leaks over the years) a battery explosion could be very serious.
 
Frank, Shorn pointed you in the right direction.However, the battery you choose should have at least 65 AHs of capacity,Not less than 650 CCA and be completely sealed,such as the delco Units.Optima is an Ideal choice though.---FWIW---Keoke
 
I have used Optima batteries for several years for ground power carts for turbine helicopters (including starting, which takes a bit more amperage than our Healeys). I have never seen a lead acid battery that works so well, with no maintenance. If I could fit one into my BN-2 I would. I've even left one of them sitting for almost a year and then put it into my van which started right up.
