Battery for a 79 US Midget

US owners -
All the battery suppliers say to use a group 24 or 26 battery in a 79 Midget. However, a 24 or 26 is 6 3/4 inches deep, and the space from the back of the heater box to the bulkhead is 6 1/2 inches! What is everyone else using? I see that a SP-22NF will fit, has anyone tried one?
I guess I could reposition the heater core forward, but its where they intended it to be right now!
Cheers

I can't help you as My Midget has has the heater core removed - proably to fit the larger battery! I can suggest you ask this question in the Spridgets forum where someone will have an answer I am sure.

I had to remove my '74 Midget hood to remove the 26 the PO had installed.

I have a Group 51 in my 76 Midget. There is plenty of room behind the heater. I have mine installed with the posts away from the body and place a 3/4 in plastic block between the battery and the body to help keep any acid off the body. My brother sells batteries, and I just asked him the difference in size between the 51 and 22NF. He said they are about the same size, but the group 51 would likely have more cold cranking amps than a 22NF.
