Battery Cutoff Switch

They were not made to be rebuilt but I had the same issues with mine and I just drilled out the rivets and took it apart. There are two copper contacts that get pushed together when you turn the switch and I just "resurfaced" them (i.e. made them smooth and removed the big pits and corrosion) and put in some new rivets and it has worked flawlessly since.

Can it be rebuilt? Any tips?

Sometimes you can repair them
:
1 drill out the rivets
2 Carfuly open it up
3 reverse the contacts
4 close it up and add 4/40 screws/nuts to hold the case shut

Now Hope it works---

Dunno if you're a member of AHCUSA, but Roger Moment did a very thorough write-up on refurbishing cutoff switches a couple years ago.

I think the more you use the switch the better it works. It sort of polishes the contacts. I re-built mine 12 years ago and it still works fine. If you are careful the rivets can continue to be used.
