The cutoff switch (Lucas original) in my BJ7 will only make an electrical connection if I hit a certain "sweet spot" and not when it's in the "ON" position. Can it be rebuilt? Any tips?

They were not made to be rebuilt but I had the same issues with mine and I just drilled out the rivets and took it apart. There are two copper contacts that get pushed together when you turn the switch and I just "resurfaced" them (i.e. made them smooth and removed the big pits and corrosion) and put in some new rivets and it has worked flawlessly since.

I think the more you use the switch the better it works. It sort of polishes the contacts. I re-built mine 12 years ago and it still works fine. If you are careful the rivets can continue to be used.
