battery cut off switch

Is that showing a positive earth setup? If I make mine negative ground should I use the black wire to the cutoff switch?

Hi He is still sleep. However, if yuo are trying to determine the ground configuration based on the color of the cables that usually can not be done. Because the original cables are both black.. But as a matter of personal choice the "POS" cable in the car could be identified using a red cable. Fwiw--Keoke

Keoke,
If I wanted to do that I would just paint the red wire black
My question was really more to do with if the negative from the battery should be connected to the cutoff then to the chassis via a black wire in a negative ground car. Or should the positive terminal from the battery via red wire to connect to the cutoff switch, but then not to ground?

In a positive ground car is it the red wire to the cutoff, then on to the ground?

Don't overthink this. The cutoff switch opens and closes the circuit to chassis common/ground and also shunts the coil primary circuit to ground when in the 'Off' position. In a positive-ground car, the cable from the cutoff switch will connect to the positive terminal on the battery; in a negative-ground car, the cable will connect to the negative terminal (regardless of cable colors).

In either case, there will be a strap from the cutoff switch to a boss/bolt on the chassis.

My question was really more to do with if the negative from the battery should be connected to the cutoff--Yes

then to the chassis via a Flexible braided ground strap in a negative ground car-- :yesnod:

. Or should the positive terminal from the battery via red wire to connect to the cutoff switch,--- :nonod:

WHEW!!!

but then not to ground?---?????:

In a positive ground car is it the red wire to the cutoff, then on to the ground? ---- :yesnod:

Summary:

Negative ground ---Can use black cable--
Negative terminal of battery connected through cut of switch to GND.

POSITIVE GROUND---Can use red cable
Positive terminal of battery connected through cut off switch to GND

Roger's good pictures also shows how not to install a power ground.
As shown the interface between the braided ground cable and the chassis can only occur by traveling through the bolt,
The fasteners in a ground connection are primarily to add fixation and pressure to the interface.
If you look along the structure that holds the switch bracket just below that bracket and slightly forward of it you will see the intended chassis connection point for the power ground strap.
It should be free of paint and the bolt fitted with a lock washer.
In the first picture you will see the threaded raised point I am referring too.-Fwiw--Keoke

Good eye Keoke! What was I thinking, posting a photo showing how to wire the switch the wrong way, what a block head :square:

Thanks to keoke for catching that and explaining the proper way. I'll make that correction today. Cheers my friend.

I can't see if you scraped the paint off underneath the lug--Keoke--

What, you don't have x-ray vision?
Nope. Grinded off the paint, and removed the paint from the threads too.
