Basil - HELP Please!! Forum slower than ever

I don't know what's been happening the past three or four days, but it's now taking 2-3 minutes to post or even read different threads.

Are we under attack? Are those spiders screwing things up for the rest of us? I hate to complain, but this is really bad.

Mine is currently working normal. I had problems earlier but OK now.

Surely (Shirley?) there are some server-end stats that Basil can track. About an hour ago I couldn't reach *any* BCF page without getting "server not responding" - EXCEPT for the BCF homepage, which would respond immediately.

With similar problems reported by other members here, it's obviously not just me or my Charter.net internet service.

Wonder what Basil has been finding.

Its strange, from work I have these issues a lot. Pages won't load, slow...but I never have them from home. Could it be a setting on IE?

Hey, Paul, don't know if you use a cable modem to get to the "internets", but if you do, a quick way to get back to speed is to unplug the CM for a moment, and have it reboot. Also, if your ISP provider had done upgrades on the system, your cable modem may be too old to keep up with increased bandwidth. Just a thought....

Have the problem both at work and at home.
It just took 5 minutes to load the front summary page.
It's the site - everything else I have up is fine.

What exactly are spiders?

Kevin,

Like Alan, I have seen the problem both at home and at work. Home is with Cox and office is Comcast, but same results.

I've unplugged and reset the modems and routers and cleared all caches. It's the same on Mozilla, IE 7, and Opera browsers.

Tonight is somewhat better than this afternoon, but very spotty, especially when posting or editing a post.

Paul,

it has been periodic over here(roadrunner cable) for about two weeks now. Intermittent some times can't open up(I quit on a site if it doesn't open within 90 seconds). Then mostly it's back to normal.

During this two week slowdown period I will get very sloooow movement sometimes from forum to forum....

I hope he gets it fixed soon, as I wanna send some money in, but being Scot, dinna want to waste it.

It's only one thing that could account for these problems, and I hate to say I told you so, there is a conspiracy, yep, you got it. The "commies" have hacked the forum, no question about it. I told you guys not to buy them tires.... you have no one to blame but yourself.

Yes, it's zipppppy at the moment.

Hey John; Web spiders are powerful software programs that crawl around the world wide web, automatically analysing words, following links and collecting vast amounts of data. That information is used by search engine to find what your searching for.

Yesterday I just upped and walked away. Had better things to do than sit and watch the load thingy spin.

well, looks like it's not a 24/7 thing. it's now 6am EST and there's no delay at all.

wondering ... is the intermittent problem related to heavy server use? did the new "subscriber benefits" increase server load by adding more sites and blogs, etc. which are heavily used sometimes and not used at other times?

Don had problems on the West Coast; Paul and I on the East Coast; Ron in the Islands. Edit: Seems it's not the 'net, but only BCF, as folks are not having problems with other sites.

Does the Boss have any comments on the situation?

Hi Paul,

I just tuned in here & all is well on my end.

There were some problems last wk. but It`s OK now.

Russ

Seems fine tonight. I hope that it stays this way.

I'll find out tonight when I tune in the pub. Sometime it takes a while to go from this forum to the forum main page.

Working great tonight. Thanks Basil!!

EDIT:

Well, it was till I typed that, but only a 15 second delay. Much better than yesterday.
