The "curve" may be the daunting bit, Tom. Tho by now it is certainly much more "civilised," due to flavors like Ubuntu and Mint.
We started with Red Hat when it first came out, so have stayed with that (CentOS, primarily) over others. Though we have tried Mandrake, SuSE and the rest as time went on.
