Hey all,
Sure some have been watching the BJ Palm Beach auction the past couple of days. I caught two BJ8's going through, might have been others but haven't watched it non stop. Surprised
on both of them.

First one was what looked like a very nice BRG 1966 BJ8,
what they showed looked good. Even had the correct 60 spoke
painted wheels versus the usual chrome. It only brought
$38,000 if I recall correctly. Think they were trying to get
39 or 40 but seems like it sold at $38,000. That seemed very
low to me.

The second one, a Kurt Tanner golden beige with black leather
interior - supposedly as originally built - brought $100,000
and was the high seller for yesterday. I'd say Kurt still
has the magic. Was obviously a perfect car and guess his
name adds a lot to the pricing.

Imagine there are more to go today and tomorrow so be interesting to see what they bring.

Regards,
Mike

The first day of the BJ auction bring in the least money and they put the cars up that are going to bring in less on purpose. So over all the car did well for a first day-er. Almost the highest of all the cars on the block that day. They save the high dollar cars for the last day. They wait for people to get caught up in the excitement. You will notice there are fewer people in the audience cause the serious guys don't even bother to show.

I was at the show and looked at both cars. The green BJ8 was in decent condition but needed work and a fair amount of TLC. The B-J people were sitting by the car and they said it isn't a very desirable AH3000.

I'm more surprised / disheartened by the 2nd Kurt Tanner BJ8 that went for $75k the last day.

I have been watching on and off, and missed these..... thanks for the info.

A nice 56 BN2 with a LeMans kit went for $70k as I recall. Was not an original
color to my knowledge but very nice looking. Gray over red with red interior.
Think it was done by a Healey shop back east.

If that $38k BJ8 was not as nice as it looked on TV makes me feel better about
the values. Surprised too about the second Kurt Tanner BJ8 but think that
had something to do with the color maybe or as they said on TV, just a different
crowd that day. Not a bad weekend for Kurt, $175,000 for two BJ8's !

Just out of curiosity, how many BJ8s left the factory wearing golden metallic beige paint? Seems like I see a whole bunch of them advertised as original.

I believe 551 left the factory with only 82 with red interior(the rarest).
Steve Byers has the exact number and probably a list of those that were originally painted the beige color and maybe even how many that were re-painted the beige color that weren't as original. Buyer beware.
