Banks - I have to rant

We have kept a USA bank account for a number of years - was $60 in it and was at Washington Mutual (of course absorbed by Chase.) It was always a "free" (no fee account) Just got a letter saying they were now going to charge $12 per month for the account, or I could maintain a balance of $1500 or have an average balance of $5000. So, $12 per month for an account with $60. Can only interpret this as, "we don't want your small bank account business so we will charge you till you go away." Told the girl on the phone that and she giggled. Just closed my account.

Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!!! :madder:

JP, it appears that many banks will start such practices. Seems they can't make enough money "the old fashioned way", so they decide to charge fees for accounts that previously had none.

This practice may backfire on some banks. If my bank does it, I'm walking, just like you did.

Modern banking, it's not about the customer, sadly.

JP- if you want it in the US, just send it to me. I'll keep an eye on it for you and twice a year I'll take a photo of it and send it to you

Really, it's not worth getting bent out of shape over. Seems the way of the world now. The banks feel compelled to raise rates any way they can, much like the airlines and their baggage and seat fees.

holy pennysaver!, reading this post i just remembered leaving about $1200.00 in the bank of bermuda, its been sitting there or not since 1992. :wall:
