I know this has been talked about before but... I am trying to get my wire wheels ballanced and having trouble finding a shop that can grab the wheels in the ballancer as described in all the literature. I realize the inside of the wheel can be centered by a regular cone inside the hub, but the outside of the wheel needs to be centered by a 'female' cone on the outside of the outer hub. It is this 'female' cone that no one seems to have or have heard of.

Any suggestions?
 
I remember years ago, they used to balance the wheel on the car while it was on the rack. Can they still do that?
 
I'd look for a good old bubble balancer. After all, that's they ever had back then and they worked very well.
 
I took a splined hub to the shop with my wheels so they could mount that to the balancer and then mount the wheels to the hub. Balancing on the car would be better though if there were variation in the splined hubs and knockoffs.
 
You will need to make a fixture to balance the wire wheels the way they say to do this. This is something that I don't this most wheel shops will have unless they have done alot of knockoff wheels. I have a wheel balance stand that is used for to balance aircraft wheels. It let the heavy spot of the wheel go to the bottom. This also works good for truing the wheels.

I came across a bubble balancer and stick-on weights. I haven't used them yet, but I have to do a spare wheel tire replacement soon.

Adrio - Call Frank Kutas at "Spoke 'n True" in Toronto. From the name of his shop, you can guess that he is a specialist for wire wheels. I heard him speak at a Toronto Triumph Club meeting about 10 years ago. I was impressed. He always has an advert in the "RAGTOP".

I took mine to the local tire store and they balanced them without any special 'parts' that I know of. No nicks and perfectly balanced.
 
I had a flat, took the wheel to a tire shop, they would not touch the tire and tube set up, however they helped me get the tube out, I took it home and patched it, went back to the tire store they helped me get the tube and tire back on and balanced it with no special fixtures, no problem since
