Bad switch?

Decided to take the car out for a spin last week, and noticed that the turn signals are working, but the hazards aren't...it's always something!

I thought I'd check with the folks here and see if it was as simple as the switch going bad before I started to go crazy pulling things apart...

Thanks!

Have you tried rocking the switch several dozen times?
They get a bit nasty in there sometimes and rocking them kind of cleans them up a bit. Amazing how they just start working after a while.

Not sure on the '75, but on the '79, there is a separate flasher for the hazards than the blinkers. It's under the console. Also, the switch is pretty easy to take apart to clean the contacts. While you are at it, might as well do the same for all your switches.

definitely the switch. When the hazards are off- power is run to the blinkers. when the hazards are on -power is cut to the blinkers.

I can't tell you how many times I've had visits from the "prince of darkness" Each time, he was hiding in that hazard switch.

I did replace the switch which made things much better, but have found that Prince Lucas seems to hide in the connections made at the switch as well.

Take a look at Gerard's Garage Web site. He posted pics of a Heater Fan switch I took apart and cleaned and the Hazard may be the same on the inside. At least the shape on my 68 is about the same.

Why else would it be called a hazard switch? :jester:
