Was all set and headed downtown to our monthly First Thursday arts & culture night, I've photographed it for several years, the last three of them as the official photographer, tonight for some reason their website didn't update the listing for October, figured it was just a mistake...
Nope! Arrived at Art Central (which used to be a thriving arts building) to deadness, talked with a gallery owner I know and she informed that the group who used to run First Thursday is now defunct and that essentially the event isn't going to happen anymore...
Or... An attempt is being made to run it again through someone else but from the sounds of it on a lesser scale
Meantime... Art Central as an arts building is dying, only a few galleries remain as the landlord brings in tenants that have nothing to do with arts, I think within a year it won't be Art Central at all the way things are going... Tracey (who I talked to tonight) is bailing out of the building at the end of the year, she's had enough...
Yeah, not in a great mood, I know that the arts scene has ebbs and flows but this one isn't a good one...
