Bad Mainshaft - Ouch!

Cutlass

The front bearing surface on my 66 BJ8 mainshaft is galling. The local folks say it's just a matter time till failure. A new one is around $1000.00. That's pretty steep, to say the least. I haven't called BCS yet, but will Monday. Other than that idea, I'm a bit stumped. My internet search tonight was not productive. Any great ideas?

Well Cutlass, I guess you meant "Mainshaft" so there have been some advertised on E-bay. also look for a good used one. Try Bill Bolton in Oregon. I guess the Lay shaft is gone too as it uses the same crappy bearings. --Keoke

Wow.....MGA mainshafts are cheaper than rebar. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I worked with a guy who was tearing down an old garage in order to build the one of his dreams.
He ran into a bit of trouble with the jack hammer.

Seems the PO was truck garage owner....

He buried dozens of old truck axles in the concrete.
He called it trebar /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
