Bad Day In The Garage

Well it was a bad day in the Back family garage. I had begun disassembly of the left front suspension in preparation for installing new Polyurethane bushes. All went well until I started to remove the wishbone arms from the wishbone pivot. The front nut was to tight to move so I used a cheater on the end of the rachet. The nut chose to remain on the pivot so at that moment the end of the pivot snapped off. Ok, this is bad enough but it gets worse. I pulled the wishbone arms loose from the spring pan and low and behold the lower trunion bolt had worn a nice oval hole in the end of the wishbone arms. Further inspection revealed that the lower trunion bolt was almost worn into. I am really not expecting anything better on the right side but I'll wait till I get it disassembled before I start a parts list. Oh well, I'm reminded of an old adage about " the best laid plans of mice and men." At least my wife has been very supportive, she reminded me that the car is 30 years old and these things are to be expected. She says just make a list then get what I need to fix it.

John - send me a PM - I have wishbone & arms used...you don't want to buy those new...$$$$$$
