Bad Car News

That kinda stuff you usually don't hear about. Shame.

Heard that on the news here last night... It is terrible...

I'm wondering too if there were appropriate safeguards in place, as it sounds like they weren't racing at a proper race track... There is a small town here in Alberta that holds an annual "car rodeo" and I know that they cancelled one of their events due to concerns for the safety of spectators, and at least one friend still has concerns sometimes as there isn't that much extra safety in place...

I don't think they were racing, just having a parade of cars and the dragster was doing some burn outs. I'll bet his throttle stuck open for a second or two.

What a tragic thing to happen, and completely avoidable.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]The AMS Pro Modified Series issued a news release saying the driver was a veteran of more than 20 years in drag racing and had to be taken to the emergency room.

The release said road conditions caused the driver to lose control.[/QUOTE]

Sounds like someone is trying to protect themselves from a severe case of irresponsibility. Doing burnouts between lines of spectators with a 1000HP vehicle is not my idea of safe, and is an accident waiting to happen. How could anyone be so careless?

This is a truly sad story and reminded me of another day...

I was at a car show 2 years ago where a local drove his 1/4 miler to the show. He was standing on the brakes while barely feathering the clutch to just park the thing. It just wanted to go! I rounded up the kids and put some distance betwixt him and us. The kids thought it was cool with the noise and flames and all but I saw something a lot different happening. Luckily it didn't. As a spectator I find it's always a good idea to arrive a little late and leave a little early before all the cars get to actually moving.

yes this is terrible news, it clearly demonstrates that antics such as "burning off tires"-"wheel stands"-"high speed runs" etc. should only be attempted at the track with all the safe guards in place. this was a case of extreme poor judgment in my opinion, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I am so livid over this I can hardly put this into words. Of all the stupidity in this world this is one for the books. In my mind the resposibility for the deaths and injuries of the spectators falls directly on the promoters of the event, the driver involved, and the city officials that allowed this to happen. I hope they can live with themselves after causing this senseless loss of life.

I saw the video last night. A lot more than "just a burnout". I stand corrected. He was smoking the tires for several hundred feet and doing at least 100 IMO before "losing control". Bone head move to begin with. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif
