Backwards Spears

When I sent Bill Meade (100M Registry) photos of my car for acceptance in the Registry, he pointed out that the spears are on backwards. Is it a big deal to get them off and switch sides without ruining the paint? There's no way to get inside because of the sealed front fender well.

You should be able to get to them through the topside of the engine compartment. They're held in place by two nuts at the front and back. Make sure you protect the fender tops so you don't scratch the paint. You may have to move the air hoses a bit to get in there and if you're not young and flexible, you'll end up with a backache the next morning.

Happy Healeying,
Rick

There is one other way that I've heard of (haven't tried it though). Remove the fender bolts along the bottom edge and perhaps the fender screws in the door hinge face so that you can pull the fender out gently from below. With long arms you can reach up from the bottom and get to the nuts holding on the spears. This might be worth trying to avoid remove the ducts and blower to get to them from the engine side.

Cheers,
John

NO John, Rick's method does not require the blower motor to be remove and is the best way to go.Its better to have a bit of backache rather than a big headache.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Satzman's BN2 does not have a blower mounted on the side panel. In fact, it doesn't have a blower period. You "should" be able to just reach in through the hood opening to get to the fasteners, might have to remove the cold air box on the LH side if it is still there. I just tried it, & I can reach mine. Thankfully, they aren't on backward!

Yeah Dave, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif I was thinking the 100 would even be a simpler deal-No Backaches or Headaches.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

my experience has been the studs break off (due to corrosion) once you start to swing on the nuts, use lots of penetrating oil.I was forced to 'stick'on new studs which worked well enough.
