backing plate handbrake boot question

Tonight I was putting on the spring kit I got from Moss, replaced the wheel cylinders and shoes as well. I ordered the Boot, handbrake lever (item 80 in picture). Is there a trick to getting these things to attach to the backing plate, or do they just kind of sit there? My originals were pretty much rock hard and squished, so I can't tell what the position should be for them to seal at the backing plate.

Any advice or ridicule is appreciated.

There is an angled post on each side and each end of the opening where the lever goes through the backing plate. The boot has to be put on the lever and pushed all the way down to the backing plate and then worked over all 4 posts. it is a fussy job, but repeated tries will finally get it on.

Its a real wrestling match, but Dave said it: the boot goes over the four "ears" stickin' out of the plate at the opening.
 
Any brake work on the rear of an MGB is easier for me if I take the whole assembly off the car & do it on the workbench.
 
I would like to take the assembly off, but with wires it is a bit more difficult than with standard wheels. So far things have gone just fine, with the exception of one of the springs is not included in the Moss kit. If I paid better attention, I would have seen that the spring for the handbrake was not included.

I need to replace the O-rings and gaskets on the axles, so I will have it opened up for a while more. Then the adventure of bleeding the brakes and clutch. I think I'm going to buy/build a pressure bleeder to make my life a bit easier.
